RENAISSANCE

BEYONCÉ

Beyoncé epitomizes authenticity and artistry as she seamlessly merges audio masterpieces with captivating visuals. She embodies strength, beauty, grace, and power. Carter connects deeply with audiences worldwide, particularly Black, female, and queer communities. Her diverse musical repertoire spans genres like R&B, pop, rap, dance, and now even country, resonating across age demographics throughout her nearly three-decade career.

Her music invite audiences into her life. Beyoncé's meticulous attention to detail extends beyond music and is showcased in carefully crafted music videos and stunning concert performances like Beychella or Renaissance World Tour. Even without recent music videos, she continues to innovate through new mediums by captivating audiences with her artistic vision. When listeners ask where the visuals are, she implies they're right in front of our eyes. “You are the visuals, baby!”

The impact of Renaissance World Tour transcended mere entertainment. The tour fostered a sense of community and inclusivity. In her Instagram announcement for Renaissance, she emphasized a judgment-free space for self-expression and freedom. Beyoncé's influence extends far beyond music which is evident in her ability to empower individuals to embrace their true selves.

As a queer Latino, Beyoncé's music resonated deeply with me. During pivotal moments like transitioning to college and embracing my queer identity after 16 years of Catholic education in a city an hour north of the Mexican border, Renaissance was symbolic of resilience. Her album served as a beacon of confidence and empowered me to embrace my identity unapologetically. Through the album, I navigated friendships, relationships, and previously suppresed sexual energy, all while deepening my connection with myself. Certain songs resonated deeply, like "Cuff It," a favorite of my late aunt's. Although an upbeat song, it serves as a reminder of her resilience during her battle with stage 4 lung cancer and embodies themes of freedom and embracing life's journey.

Attending the Renaissance World Tour was a transformative experience, where I found solace and acceptance amidst a supportive community. Beyoncé's music has not only strengthened my bond with my loved ones but also provided moments of introspection and empowerment, especially during challenging times.

COWBOY CARTER

Heavily inspired by the album and fashion surrounding the album, I assembled my outfit: a pearl body-chain that draped over my neck and shoulders, exposing my stomach and back; paired with black leather chaps with nothing underneath but Calvin Klein black briefs, sleek futuristic sunglasses, a bedazzled black cowboy hat, and sturdy black leather boots. The moment I gazed at my reflection was nothing short of euphoric. If anything could encapsulate the essence of the Renaissance experience, it was that feeling. Despite feeling confident at home, the stares and murmurs of others outside of my home made me question myself. It was as if the world Beyoncé had painted for me was suddenly tarnished by outside judgment.

Arriving to SoFi Stadium, the discomfort passed. I laughed, I danced, I screamed, I sang. When Beyoncé performed Cuff It, I cried. It was fulfilling, full circle. I was safe, finally. I was happy. I shared the song, which was beloved by my late aunt, with Krystana—my best friend of nearly a decade—while dressed in an outfit I would have never worn without Beyoncé's influence. It symbolized a newfound acceptance of myself after years of suppression. Leaving the stadium, I was uplifted by the affirmations of strangers. The compliments served as a reminder of Beyoncé's ability to foster community and uplift individuals.

Months later, amidst overwhelming personal, academic, and familial pressures, I found comforts in the album again. Sharing a rare moment with my brother, we connected over Beyoncé's music and engaged in conversation about life's challenges and the album's impact. As the album concluded, I recognized Beyoncé's role in fostering a deep bond between my brother and me. It strengthened my self-assurance to confront life's challenges with renewed confidence and freedom.

In a world where validation is often sought externally, Beyoncé's words resonate deeply: "I have nothing to prove to anyone at this point. We are creating our own world. This is my reward. Nobody can take that away from me." She reminds us to embrace our individuality, create our own narratives, and uplift each other, embodying the essence of resilience and empowerment. Always remember, a <div>a is a female version of a hustler, and she is a <div>a.
